Central Basin Municipal Water District

May is Water Awareness Month!

May is Water Awareness Month

May is Water Awareness Month and Central Basin Municipal Water District (District) encourages you to learn about water conservation and to value the importance of our water resources. Historically, water usage increases in May due to the warmer weather. In addition, more people are found outdoors increasing their water usage. About 70% of water is used outdoors to water lawns, wash cars, and clean driveways and patios.

Throughout the month, the District will be utilizing social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to share tips about how to conserve water and to also spread awareness of the importance and value of water.

Ways to avoid wasting water outside as aforementioned include:

  • Replace your lawn with a California-friendly landscape
  • Take your car to a carwash – carwashes use recycled water
  • Instead of using the hose, sweep driveways and patios

Additionally, the District, sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, is also hosting a “Water is Life” Poster Contest for students to showcase the value of water through art. Posters are due on Friday, May 15th. Guidelines can be found on the District website at:  https://centralbasin.org/community/mwd_partnering_programs/water_is_life_poster_contest
